a What fhall I render unto the Lord, for all his Benefits towards me? I will take the Cup of Salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord: I will pay my Vows unto the Lord, in the prefence of all his People.

b Whosoever fhall eat this Bread, and drink this Cup of the Lord unworthily, fhall be guilty of the Body and Blood of the Lord.

Let a Man examine himself, and fo let him eat of that Bread, and drink of that Cup: For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh Damnation to himself, not difcerning the Lord's Body.

Offer not polluted Bread upon his Altar, neither fay, the Table of the Lord is contemp-\ tible.

HOLY DAYS, FEASTS, and FASTS.

• To every thing there is

Seafon, Holy Days. and a time to every purpose under the Heaven.

f In fix Days the Lord made Heaven and Earth, the Sea and all that in them is, and rested the feventh Day, wherefore the Lord bleffed the feventh Day, and hallowed it.

8 Upon the first Day of the Week, the Difciples of Chrift came together, to break Bread, and to hear the Word preached.

h There is a Day of Feafting and Gladness; and a Day for a Man to afflict his Soul.

[blocks in formation]

a Thou shalt honour the Lord on his holy Day; not doing thine own Ways, nor finding thine own Pleasure, nor fpeaking thine own Words.

b Turn not again to the weak and beggarly Elements of the World, by obferving thofe Days, and Months, and Times, and Years, which the Jews obferved.

c One Man esteemeth one Day above another; another efteemeth every Day alike. Let every Man be fully perfuaded in his own Mind. But he that regardeth a Day, let him regard it unto the Lord.

d Six Days thou fhalt do thy Work, and on the feventh Day thou shalt reft that thine Ox, and thine Afs may reft; and the Son of thy Handmaid, and the Stranger may be refreshed.

e Upon the firft Day of the Week, which is called the Lord's Day, let every one of you lay by him in ftore, as God hath profpered him.

Feafts.

Thou shall rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy Son, and thy Daughter, and thy Man-fervant, and thy Maid-fervant, and the Levite, the Stranger, the Fatherless, and the Widow, that are among you.

Thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, in all that thou putteft thine Hand unto.

b What will ye do in the folemn Day, and in the Day of the Feaft of the Lord? It is a Day

of Gladness, and Feafting; and a good Day: a Day of Joy, and of fending Portions one to another, and Gifts to the poor.

a Chrift our Paffover is facrificed for us; therefore let us keep the Feaft, not with old Leaven, neither with the Leaven of Malice and Wickedness, but with the unleavened Bread of Sincerity and Truth. This is the Day which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.

b When thou makeft a Feaft, call the Poor, the Maimed, the Lame, the Blind; and thou. fhalt be bleffed: for they cannot recompenfe thee: but thou shalt be recompenfed at the Refurrection of the Juft.

c Let there be no Spots in your Feafts of Charity.

d Let us humble our Souls with Fafting; Fafts. and afflict our felves before our God, to feek of him a right way for us.

e The Day of the Lord is very terrible; there fore now faith the Lord, turn ye to me with all your Heart, and with Fafting, and with Weeping, and with Mourning.

When ye faft, be not, as the Hypocrites,. of a fad Countenance: for they disfigure their Faces, that they may appear unto Men to faft : but thou, when thou fafteft, anoint thy Head, and wash thy Face; that thou appear not unto Men to faft, but unto thy Father which is in fecret and thy Father which feeth in fecret, fhall reward thee openly.

a Is this fuch a Faft as I have chofen (faith the Lord) for a Man to bow down his Head as a Bulrufh, and to spread Sackcloath and Ashes under him? Wilt thou call this a Faft, and an acceptable Day to the Lord? Is not this the Faft that I have chofen, to loose the Bands of Wickedness, to undo the heavy Burthens, and to let the oppreffed go free, and that ye break every Yoke? Is it not to deal thy Bread to the Hungry, and that thou bring the Poor, that are cat out, to thy Houfe? When thou feest the Naked, that thou cover him; and, that thou hide not thy felf from thine own Flesh? Then fhalt thou call, and the Lord will answer.

b Bleffed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

PUBLICK ASSEMBLIES for DIVINE WORSHIP.

When Jefus was taken up into Heaven, the Apostles taught the People, publickly, fhewing by the Scriptures, That Jefus was Chrift. They frequently affembled themfelves with the Church, and taught much People: They were bold to speak the Word, without Fear; and, they ceafed not to teach and preach Jefus Chrift; speaking unto Men to Edification, and Exhortation, and Comfort.

d And at first, all that believed were together, continuing daily with one accord in the Temple. Many of them afterwards were gathered together in the Houfes of fome Difciples;

and they often reforted to fuch places where Prayer was wont to be made. And when they were prefent before God, to hear all things commanded them of God; then did the Apoftles fpeak unto them, and tell them what they ought to do.

a And they continued fted faftly in the Apoftle's Doctrine, and Fellowship, and in breaking of Bread, and in Prayers.

b Having therefore, Brethren, Boldness to enter into the Holieft, by the Blood of Jefus; by a new and living Way, which he hath confecrated for us, through the Vail, that is to fay, his Flesh; and, having an High Prieft over the House of God; let us draw near with a true Heart, in full affurance of Faith, having our Hearts sprinkled from an evil Confcience, and our Bodies washed with pure Water. And let us confider one another, to provoke unto Love, and good Works, not forfaking the affembling of our felves together, as the manner of fome is.

c God is greatly to be feared in the Affembly of the Saints; and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him: unto his Habitation fhall ye feek, and thither fhall ye come, ye and your Houfholds.

d Gather the People together, Men, and Women, and Children, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord, and obferve to do all the Words of his Law: and
